Approximately 300 Methodist leaders from all parts of the nation
will hold an evangelistic conference,
sponsored by the General Board. of
Evangelism of the Methodist church, in Indianapolis Monday through
Friday. Using this city as a laboratory,
or testing ground, the leaders will
attempt to develop methods and procedures for evangelistic work
throughout the denomination. The work will be carried on as part of the four-year Crusade for Christ authorized at the recent general conference, The program here, which will influence the work all over the United States, will include house to house visitation and surveys, demonstra_tion street meetings, jail services and mass convocations. . -
Public Sessions Limited
Dr. Guy O. Carpenter, district superintendent, will open the popular meeting of the conference with an address of welcome Monday
at 7:30 p. m. in the Central Avenue Methodist church. Other speakers are: Bishop Charles C. Selecman of Dallas, Tex. chairman of the board of evangelism and Dr, Harry Denman of Nashville, Tenn,, board executive secretary. In addition to this meeting, the 11 a. m. daily devotional services on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, addressed by Dr. Roy H. Short are the only conference sessions open to the public. Dr, Short of Nashville, Tenn, is the editor of the widely used devotional booklet, “The Upper Room.” Tuesday afternoon, there will be a community survey and home visitation to secure converts, church letter transfers, reclaim inactive members and establish family worship. The survey will include the territory from Roberts Park to Fall Creek blvd. and the section -surrounding the Scott Memorial church. Instruction in methods will be given at a dinner meeting at 5:30 p. m. Tuesday when 140 ministers will. assemble at the Central Avenue church, Teams to Make Visits
Following the dinner, 20 pastors will meet 20 laymen at seven selected community churches, The 140 pastor-layman teams will start the visitation at 7:30 p. m. and report back to their respective churches at 9:30 p. m. Pastor-lay-man teams totaling 280 persons will attempt to secure 300 adult decisions for church membership Wednesday afternoon and evening. « Dr. Denman and the Rev. J. W. Golden will serve as leaders for a Thursday luncheon conference followed by clinical work such as the jail services, street preaching, radio, and a preaching mission with an evangelistic speaker in every Methodist church in the city. Adjournment is set for Friday noon follow{ng an open forum om “The Work of the Conference Secretaries of Evangelism.” .
Woman's Day To Be Marked
Phe Third Christian church is one of the many congregations of the Disciples of Christ brotherhood which will mark Woman's day with special services tomorrow, Mrs, W. B. Alexander, for 36 years a missionary to India, now retired, will speak in the Third church, She will be introduced by Mrs. C. J. Gadstetter, president of the Woman's Missionary society. Mrs. J. E. Blackburn will read the scripture and give the prayer. The Rev, A. C. Brooks is church pasfdr. ‘ At the West Park Christian . ¢hurch, Miss Lela Taylor, former missionary to South America and student of Latin American affairs, will give the Woman's day address at 10:30 a. m. Concert Set By Chorus
The Concordia college chorus of Ft. Wayne, Ind., will give a concert at St. Paul's Lutheran church, New Jersey and McCarty sts, tomorrow at 8 p. m. Prof, Walter E. Buszin will direct the chorus in a varied program, Offerings in the first and last groups are from thé more profound composers while those of the second group are in a lighter musical vein. Bach, Eccard and Franck will be heard in .the first division and Brahms, Mendelssohn and Muller in the third. Between, there will be such selections as: “Shepherds [Shake Off Your Drowsy Sleep,” by Besancon Carol and “The Holly Tree Carol,” arranged by Ralph Marryott. The concert is sponsored by the Indianapolis Lutheran Business and Professional Women's club. Miss Olga Dittmer is club president and Miss Eloise Leéukhardt is program chairman. Dr, H. M. Season of Advent
The Speedway Christian church will mark the season of Advent with three vesper services from 4:30 to 5:30 p. m. tomorrow, and Dec. 10 and 17, Advent, the period of spiritual preparation for the coming of the Christ Child, begins tomorrow and includes the four Sundays before Christmas. The cloister choir of the church will sing the cantata, “The Child Jesus,” tomorrow afternoon. At the second vespers, Dec. 10, the Speedway Women’s Choral club will pre-

A team of 18 leaders of the Northern Baptist ‘convention will hold a seminar, dealing with all phases of Baptist work in the world, for 400 Hoosier preachers next week, The seminar. will be held Tuesday through Thursday in the First Baptist church with Dr. J. Miss Schmitz to Talk
On Tuesday noon,~ Miss Helen Schmitz, missionary * counselor for the Women's American Baptist Home Mission society, will address pastors’ wives and officials of women's work in Indianapolis Baptist churches. The group will be guests of the women of the First Baptist church, Miss Irene Jones of New York, specialist in Christian education, also will speak. Mrs. Marjorie Boles and Mrs. R. T, Capen are in charge of the program. At the Wednesday morning seminar session, Dr. G. Pitt Beers, executive secretary of the American Baptist Home Mission society of New York, and Miss Alice Brimson, head of the denomination’'s program for women, will speak on home mis~ sions. Dr. Luther Wesley Smith, executive secretary of the American Baptist Publication society of Philadelphia, will talk Wednesday afternoon. on the Baptist program of Christian education. Another Wednesday speaker will be Dr, Newton G. Petter, director of university pastors and ‘student work for the Baptist board of education in New York. Dr, Edward H. Clayton, author of “Heaven Below,” will describe his experiences as a missionary for 32 years to China, Tuesday afternoon. Dr. Clayton was repatriated on the Gripsholm in 1942 after having served as relief director for China during the Japan occupation. At the same session, Dr. Jesse R Wilson, executive secretary -of the American Baptist Home Mission society, will speak on “Foundation Facts in Christian Missions.” Miss Dorothy Stevens, director’ of missionary education under the Baptist board of education, New York, will speak on Wednesday. Miss Stevens will remain in the city to meet Friday with a committee of Baptist Men, Inc., in charge of work with demobilized servicemen.

The Mars Hill Free Methodist church, which was dedicated Christmas of 1941, will burn its mortgage in ceremonies at 2:30 p. m, tomorrow, The Rev. Paul N. Johnson of Attica, a former pastor, will give the sermon, The church is of Gothic design, built of cream-colored tile, and has a seating capacity of about 500.
