RIOTING PRISONERS

ROME, Nov. 24 (U. P,).—Officials of the ancient Regina Coeli prison planned today to starve out between 500 and 600 Italian civilian prisoners who barricaded themselves in a wing of the institution after setting fire to several prison buildings and defied the efforts of ‘300 Carabiniers to dislodge them.

tion here today,

The rioters scampered across roofs | of buildings and threw tile and] _ other objects at firemen. Three prisoners were believed wounded by | rifle fire, { The prison housed 1700 inmates. | Those not participating in the riot were transferred to another prison. The riot apparently was a demonstration against long imprisenment without trial, poor food, sanitdry conditions and overcrowding, the army newspaper Stars and Stripes said.

There is some talk of creating new committees to handle aviatlon legislation and social security and welfare legislation. Ross Tecke= meyer, present deputy state auditor, is scheduled to be continued in that office, Ross Freeman, Republican deputy chief state examiner, is scheduled to be advanced to the post of state examiner when Ralph Gates becomes governor.
