Wedemeyer Says Plans Are Made for Campaign to
- Knock Out Japan.
OCHUNGKING, Nov, 24 (U, P.).— Maj. Gen. Albert C. Wedemeyer, head of American forces in China and chief of staff of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek, said yesterday that American armies eventually will be employed in China for a continental campaign "to knock out Japan. “Our future plans envisage employment of all kinds of forces from all possible sources,” Wedemeyer told a press “conference questioner who had asked about the future role of U. 8. ground forces in China. “When the war in Europe ends I want to be ready to tell Gen, George C. Marshall, ‘we can use certain forces and supplies for a definite purpose.
Plans Are Mapped
“You can be sure such plans are being made.” Wedemeyer, emphasizing his belef in the necessity for a ground campagin in China to defeat the Japanese, said, “we will also need sea communications to China to bring in the necessary supplies.” He pointed out that Adm. Chester Nimitz recently expressed the opin- | fon that we would finally haye to: engage Japanese forces on the Asiatic mainland. “In my opinion the Japanese have | committed themselves to continent-| al strategy for the final decisive stages of the war,” Wedemeyer said. | “We'll need a continental force to close with him and for employment of our air forces.”

Wedemeyer, whose relations with the generalissimo are in an advisory capacity, said that Chiang had approved his recommendations for redisposition of forces in China for more effective operations against the Japanese and that those plans were now being carried out.
