{ | | Times Foreign Service | “PARIS, Nov, 15~American sol|diers will be given’ the opportunity to buy better grade French per- [ fumes, costume .-jewelry, handkers {chiefs, lace and other novelty items during the coming months, under {the plan now being worked out by larmy exchange service and French governmental agencies. Procurement will be made direct from established French firms, in order to insure reasonable prices as well as quality, The plan provides a means for the re-employment of a large number of French civilians. The same ‘idea is being reflected in Belgium, where hand-made laces in pre-war days provided employment for many people.
150,000 Rolls of Film
Army exchange service in Parls has already sent 22,000 watches and 150,000 rolls of film to soldiers in the combat zone under the scheme which will make available to all front-line troops gift items they would like to buy for themselves and their families, Expert purchasing agents in Paris, working under the direction of the exchange service, have already lined up’ 1,500,000 bottles of real French perfume, a considerable quantity of costume jewelry, some leather goods and a lesser quantity of French lingerie. These will be placed on sale in the combat zone at prices which are lower than the sbldier would pay if he shopped in Paris. Hé probably wouldn't find- these items in Paris, anyway.

army agents have secured it directly from the manufacturers with the ald of the French government, which is supplying the factories with the raw materials they require. No rear area troops will be able to take advantage of this special shopping service until the combat troopé have had a chance to do their buying. The will be on sale at unit post exchare throughout the army zones, and &t a later date in the communications zone in which Paris is situated, G. 1's can be certain, under this arrangement, that they are buying gifts of quality at prices very close to those paid by wholesalers if the latter could obtain the goods, At the same time, French industry gets a bit of help in starting up again, Copyright, 1944, by The Indianapolis Times and The Chicago Daily News, Inc,
LECTURER IS HEARD
“The purpose of Christian Science is to show mankind how to avail itself of divine power and how to
utilize it in times of extremity and urgent need,” Leonard T. Carney, C. 8. B., sald In a Christian Science lecture last night. Mr, Carney spoke in the Murat theater under the auspices of the Fourth Church, here. His subject was “Christian Science Utilizing Divine Power” Mr. Carney said further: ’ ? “What has Christian Science to offer to those on the field of battle and te their loved ones at home? Because of the ever-availability of divine power, those at the front, as well as those behind, are equipped with the means of protection against which no devices of evil may prevail We read in the Christian Science -textbook (p, 559), “The “still, small voice” of scientific thought reaches over continent and ocean to bound.’ "
