with a charming personality. A few months ago we sent her away to a religious school. Recently she was home on a vacation and told me she had made a mistake with a boy there whom she “loves,” was sorry afterwards and told him she would not do this again. This came as a shock to me as I thought I had been a modern mother and taught her the right
course to take at all times, TI talked with her giving her reasons why she was wrong and she promised very| earnestly that it would not happen again. Her one worry in telling me was that she might not be allowed to return and finish school. Did I do wrong in letting her go back where she will be unavoidably PY thrown in contact with this boy? Is Jane Jordan it asking too much of human nature to think she would withstand temptation and stand firm in her promise to me? Is this a weak spot in her? How can I ever trust her again? What ean a mother do to constructively help her daughter in a case like this? I am not a person who feels that one mistake ruins a
ginning of a series of mistakes? Have I so much failed as a mother that it is now too late to help her
have the strength of character
needed to make her grow up into a worth-while. woman? WORRIED WOMAN. ” » » Answer—In my opinion you have not failed as a mother at all, but should congratulate yourself that you are the sort of understanding mother .in whom a daughter can confide her mistakes and receive sympathetic_guidanee. I think you handled the whole incident very well, and should regard it as a biological accident, unlikely to happen again, You did right to. send the girl back to school regardless of the fact that she will see the boy again. In so doing you expressed your confidence in her ability to manage her own life, and this will do more
