Times Special KOKOMO, Oct. 26.—The two last Republican-controlled sessions of the state legislature were the “most expepsive” in the state's history,

“Under Republican leadership the legislature of 1941 cost the taxpayers of Indiana $172,613, while the

1943 session, also controlled by the G. O. P,, reached the handsome figure of $204,849,” the governor said. “In rolling up this stupendous total, the 1943 legislature voted an additional allowance of $5 a day for members of the general assembly while they were in session. Not content with this additional dip into the state treasury, the Republicancontrolled assembly in 1943 passed a bill fixing the salary of legislators at $1200 per year after Jan. 1, 1947, which is almost four times as great as any previous allowance.

Cites Mansion Funds

“To top off this spending spree,” the governor continued, “this same legislature appropriated $85,000 for a governor's mansion. And now in the face of all this, Republican|. speakers are going about the state saying that every effort was made to pass only essential legislation|

ana for the post-war period. They never tell the people how they tried to destroy constitutional government in Indiana in 1941.” Mr. Schricker said that, if elected, he would apply the same ptinciples of economy in the spending of public money that he has followed during his administration as governor, “If IT am sent to Washington,” he said, “I intend to represent all-of the people of the state. My opponent has announced that if he is elected his main purpose will be to destroy the New Deal. “If T am chosen by our voters, 1 propose to stand by the President, whomever he may be, in maintaining the integrity and sovereignty of the U. S. and in the writing of a peace. I will not allow any political considerations to interfere with my patriotism in that hour.”

Times Special MARION, Oct. 26.—Senator Samuel D, Jackson, the Democratic gubernatorial nominee, said here last night that in the Schricker administration he had “found the pattern for good, wholesome government I shall expect to follow.”

‘He said that the Republicans were charging that the McNutt and Townsend administrations were “the

dark days” in Indiana.

“I am willing,” said the senator, “to leave to the people the question as to who gave us the darker days: McCray, Ed Jackson and D. C. Stephenson, or McNutt, Townsend and Schricker. As between the two, I shall choose the latter group.”

Tipton, Democratic nominee for appellate court judge, declared in a radio .address here last night that “the record of the Republican party is such that it cannot be trusted to win the war.”

Congressman William L. Dawson of Chicago, the only Negro congressman, will address a Democratic rally at Tomlinson hall at 8 p. m. today. Governor Schricker and Congressman Ludlow also will speak.
