against the Franco government, but Madrid reported regular army troops had broken the only known uprising in the Aran valley, “The time has come for the supreme attack,” a spokesman for the “National Union,” organized in Prance to oppose the Franco government, sald in a broadcast over the Toulouse radio to inhabitants of Catalonia, the northeast corner of Spain. “Help the forces of the glorious guerrilla fighters for the reconquest of Spain,” the spokesman said. “nally Catalin forges quickly. Rally and fight!” ’ Symbelle of Revulsion’ The speaker asserted that Cuba, Colombia and Uruguay had broken off diplomatic relationy, with the Franco government. “This action is symbolic of the revulsion and horror felt through-

money, men and arms ir order to defeat Franco and the Falange. The broadcast was recbrded by FCC monitors soon after a United Press dispatch arrived from Madrid quoting Spanish sources as acknowledging that Spanish Maquis for a time had held the Aran valley in Catalonia, but asserting that the situation had been: “definitely restored.” Three small hamlets in the Pyrenees just across from the French frontier remained in Maquis’ hands, the dispatch said, but all others had been recaptured and the area was being mopped up by regular army troops under Gen. Rafael Garcia Valino.

Restore Communications

Telegraph communications had been restored between Viella and Sulard, named in Barcelona dispatches yesterday as among the towns seized by the Maquis, Madrid said. Towns still in Maquis’ hands were identified as Mont Auberch, Villach and Alius. More than 4000 Maquis participated in the uprising, Madrid said. Dispatches from the Spanish capital reported also that Spanish and French authorities had “reached an accord to liquidate the Maquis,” but this was not confirmed by any official source, and a Spanish government broadcast indicated that the report was at least premature,

Maxine Defies

Indianapolis is having a chance to see its own Maxine on the stage of the Circle theater because “the velvet-throated songstress” believes in the actors’ creed, the show must go on, When the day came for Maxine to leave for her engagement: here she was in bed ill in Florida, recuperating from influenza and on doctor’s orders was to remain there. “But I'm so proud to be from Indianapolis, I just couldn't miss the chance to come back,” she said. So Maxine Moore, whose mother, Mrs. Bertha Moore, resides at 601 Buchanan st., got out of bed, made a quick trip to New York to get her winter wardrobe and was’ in her home town Friday for the opening of the show to which she had been looking forward so long. Absent Five Years She has been away from Indianapolis five years, during that time

cert work in New York and singing in the role for which she is so well known, that of the Maxine of Phil Spitalny’s all-gifl orchestra on “The Hour of Charm” program. Miss Moore became the Maxine of “The Hour of Charm” quite by accident. She heard Spitalny was looking for a new Maxine and as an audition paid $100 her friends encouraged her to sing with him “as a lark.” She made arrangements to see Mr. Spitalny and when she met him said, “My name's Maxine. I'm a contralto.” Spitalny liked her and “The Hour of Charm” had a new Maxine. The Indianapolis girl, who attended Shortridge high school, Butler university and the Arthur Jordan Conservatory of Music, became “the girl with the voice of charm.”

She was with Spitalny two years and since then has been touring the country. She has appeared on 250 camp shows and if her doctor permits, hopes to go to the South Pacific theater. Maxine likes the theater, but raMio is still her first love and she plans to go back into radio work in February, Until then she will continue to tour the country, going from here to Atlanta, Ga.

British Tap Threatens 60,000 Germans in Holland.

SUPREME HEADQUARTERS, A. E. F.; Paris, Oct. 24 (U. P.).— Berlin reported that American reinforcements had moved up to the Aachen fro for a new Rhineland offensive expected soon.

SUPREME HEADQUARTERS, A. E. FP, Paris, Oct. 2¢ (U. P.).—The British 2d army cracked into the German anchor bastion of 'S Hertogenbosch, key to the main escape routes for 60,000 to 70,000 enemy troops in southwest Holland, today and front dispatches said resistance appeared to be crumbling. Troops and tanks fought into the northeast outskirts of 'S Hertogenbosch, 62 niiles northeast of Antwerp, during the night snd soon after dawn reached the canal running through the city proper. Two other columns were within three mileg or less of the city from the east and south. United Press War Correspondent Ronald Clark reported from the front that the Germans apparently were preparing to abandon the city despite their stubborn resistance on its approaches. No large numbers of German tanks-or anti-tank artillery have been observed in the area, he said. Fall Expected Soon (A B. B. C. correspondent at the front said the fate of ’S Hertogenbosch “well may be decided today.” The Canadian 1st army again sealed the entrance to Beveland and Walcheren islands in the Schelde estuary with a drive across the escape railway and highway west of Woensdracht, bottling up the enemy garrisons. The Canadians once before severed the escape lines. To the southeast, Lt. Gen George 8. Patton's 3d army doughboys were revealed to have captured threequarters of Maizieres Les Metz, five miles north of Metz itself, in a 17-day room-to-room battle.

By CARLOS BOTTY United Press Staff Correspondent

The full story of last Friday's 12hour bloody revolution, in which tanks and other modern weapons of war were used to overthrow the provisional government of President Federico Ponce, can be revealed now with the establishment of a firm democratic regime that is growing stronger every hour. It was a brilliantly executed coup by young army officers, students,
