That's Impression of Dance Revue at English.

By MILDRED KOSCHMANN | A musical heat wave ranging from the African sands to the New Orleans Dixieland swept into the English theater last night when Katherine Dunham and her dancers took over the stage. The performance given "by the lovely Miss Dunham and a cast of golden-skinned contortionists is truly unique. There's rhythm in every movement, even to a bend of the finger and wriggle of the toe, and every muscle in the bodies of the dancers gets its full share of exercise. 3 Variety was one of the keynotes of the entertainment and dances went from the interpretations of primi-

right down to modern hep-cat jive

Among numbers featuring Miss Dunham were “Bahiana,” a Brazilian

action; *“Tropics-Shore Excursion,” showing her as the lady with the big cigar; “Barrel House,” in which she does the Florida Swamp Shimmy;” the “Rara Tonga,” an _interpretative folk tale of the Melanesian people, and “Choro,” a 19th century

numbers, singing most of them in Portuguese. And top performances were given by Bobby Capo, the Bing Crosby of South America, and the Dowdy quartet which, dressed in top hats, tails and black velvet, sang the popular “Darktown Strutters’ Ball.” The colorful company with its flamboyant costumes and ¢heir boogie-woogie and African-born

The orchestra deviates from its island selections once to feature Sammy Makia in a rendition of one of Indiana’s favorite songs, “Stardust.” The Aloha Girls, five hula artists, appear with the orchestra and a hula comedienne, Leinaala, is featured in several novelty num. bers. A highlight of the show is the appearance of the Radio Rogues, comedy stars of stage, screen and radio. The trio's side-splitting impersonations of the great and neargreat were the hit of the show, resulting in their being called back for encores time after time. Another comedy team, Rochelle

An added attraction to the stage show is the appearance of Maxine, formerly featured as singer with Phil Spitalny and his all-girl orchestra.
