Swing and Cowboy Music, Acrobatics Included.

Five vaudeville acts featuring 'swing, cowboy music, acrobatics, tumbling and comedy, are on the bill at Keith's this week. With Ed Resener and the Keith orchestra providing the background music, ‘Olsen and Bredice swing out with such hits as “It Had to Be You” and “Begin the Beguine.” The Carltons, a father and son team, present several hand balancing acts and Dick Scott, the cowboy philosopher, entertains with his guitar, songs and dry humor.

Blake on Stage,

An “Amos and Andy” act by Sid Blake, with the help of four members of the audience, offers another humorous touch. In the final act the Hudson Wonders, who played 18 months or Broadway, in “Star and Garter,” bring to the stage not only acrobatic tumbiing, but beauty as weil

Shows Home Front.

that excels even the floweriest of superlatives is as rare as the proverbial hen’s tooth. And such a movie is the David O. Selznick dramatic story of the home front, “Since You Went Away.” The opening performance yesterday afternoon at Loew's played to one of the largest crowds to attend an afternoon opening here for some time, The film is long, lasting just a little less than three hours, but in no spot does it lag or lose audience interest. “Since You Went Away” is the story of the Hilton family, an average household whose man has gone to war. A simple and heartwarming tribute to the people at home, it is full of the laughter and pathos of America at war,

Colbert In Top Role

Scenes warm and alive with the joy of living make a rich background for the stark, poignant scenes of tragedy. Claudette Colbert’s interpretation of courageous Ann ‘Hilton, whose husband is a casualty, is rich and comforting, as is her portrayal of the mother of teen-aged Jane and Brig Hilton (Jennifer Jones and Snirley Temple), Joseph Cotten plays a new type role, doing. it with his usual: perfection, and Robert Walker causes many a lump in the throat as a shy, eager soldier in love with Jennifer. Although he appears in only one scene, Lionel Barrymore adds much to the film.

In Comedy Role

Providing a comedy element, Monty Wooley turns in a fine characterization of an irascible old man, a roomer in the Hilton household.

the Hiltons face war’s bleak tragedy and suspense echoes the reaction in homes all over the nation. But the film is no saga of sorrow. It is more a song of the courage and faith of the American people, and their ability to find comfort in the face of tragedy. (By Donna Mikels)

Just Like Cartoon, ‘But Not Funny’

8TH AIR FORCE HEADQUARTERS, England, Oct. 20 (U. P.) ~Lt. Woodrow William, Hous“ton, Tex., realized that he looked like a cartoon as he fell through the air, sitting in his cockpit seat’ without a plane around him, but he simply couldn't think of a’ gag-line. Williams’ Mustang buckled and exploded. when he became caught in a thunderhead cloud formation recently. “I didn't know what had happened, but. instinctively I grabbed for the ripcord on my parachute,” he said. He was only superficially injured after getting the chute open “just in the nick of time” “As I landed I saw pieces of the plane wobbling down,” he said. “It wasn't funny.”
