English opera house last night as “The Student Prince” opened for a three-day engagement, ‘ Just as music lovers in Chicago and on Broadway went time and again to see the operetta, breakihg attendance and box officce records, so did Indianapolis patrons come back again to hear one of their favorite plays. And many of them left the theater humming the melodies of “Golden Days,” “Just We Two” and “Deep in My Heart,” only a few of the many songs featured in the production.

Hurley in Lead

Fresh and charming was Laurel Hurley who played the leading part of Kathie, niece of the proprietor of the Inn of the Three Golden Apples at Heidelberg where the student prince attended school. Playing opposite Kathie as Karl Franz, heir apparent to the throne of Karlsberg, was James Raymond, a handsome young man with a pleasant but slightly weak tenor voice who looked, however, fully princely and did a fine job of acting. The romantic story, unfolded in four acts, concerns the life of Karl

The “Victory Bandwagon,” a full-scale musicale revue, will play a one-night performance at ° 8:30 p. m. tomorrow in the Murat theater. . Directed by Lou Kleinman, th productioh will feature Mary Lou Williams, “queen of boogie woogie”; Helen Tamiris, and Danfel Nagrin, American concert dancers; Will Geer, who starred for three years in “Tobacco Road”; Woody Guthrie, folk guitarist, who once played in Radio City’s Rainbow room, and Cisco Houston, balladeer to Guthrie's guitar.

- Also headlined are Bernie Hern,

comedian; Laura Duncan, blues singer; Orelia ‘and Pedro, whirl wind dancers from Latin America; Rollin Smith, baritone; Betty Royce, concert pianist, and the Mary Lou Williams band. Among Miss Williams’ numbers will be “Ballot Box Boogie in the Key of Franklin D.” Lou Kleinman wrote most of the lyrics, and the skits are by Arthur Elmer and Sam Locke.

English Also Books 'Othello,’ ‘Life With Father.’

Three more coming attractions were placed on the English theater schedule today as Manager Vincent Burke announced the booking of “Life With Father,” “Othello” and “Sons of Fun.” “Life With Father,” the hilarious comedy of family life in the Gay 90's, will play here Nov, 8, 10 and 11, The cast, however, will not be the same as last year, “Othello,” starring Paul Robeson in the title role, will play Nov. 13-15 with a matinee performance on Nov, 15. The play broke all Broadway records for Shakespearean plays in New York last season. The musical staged by Olson and Johnson, “Sons of Fun” will come Nov, 16-18 with a Saturday matinee performance. Olsen and Johnson, however, will not be in the show since they are -opening a new show on Broadway this fall. Their roles

. will be filled by Joe and Marty May.

Other bookings at English this year are “The Student Prince,” now playing; Katherine Dunham's “Tropical Revue,” Friday and Saturday, and “Wallflower” on Oct. 26428.
