PITTSBURGH, Oct. 13.—As part of a founder's day celebration at the Carnegie institute here, the department of fine arts last night inaugurated the exhibition “Painting in the United States, 1944.” The display of 311 paintings by as many artists will continue thorugh Dec. 10. President William Frew of the institute announced the winners of seven monetary awards following founder's day exercises last night in Carnegie music hall.
