Miss Marian McFadden, assistant librarian since last July 1 and active in the city library system since 1934, was named acting librarian last night by the school board, replacing L. L. for two years. She was head librarian at the Brightwood branch from 1936 to 1942 and then was supervising city librarian for - 18 months before her promotion to assistant librarian. A graduate of Tudor hall in 1922, she obtained her A. B. degree from Smith college in Northampton, Mass., in 1926, and her bachelor of library science degree at Columbia university in 1929. A delegation headed by Donald Jameson told the board the election commission has been unable to find suitable heated rooms for balloting places. Board members refused the request, g that the conversion of schools into election sites will mean dismissal of classes in the three buildings, and subsequently in other schools all over the city.

The board delayed action on a request from the P.-T. A. of school 87 to name the school in honor of George Wyshinglon Carver, noted scientist. '
ACT TO BUY PART OF SHEDD ESTATE
HAMMOND, Ind. Oct. 11 (U. P.). —Negotiations were under way today to purchase 53 acres of the C. C. Shedd estate for the building of municipal recreational facilities, the Hammond city council announced. The council will petition the war department to withhold action on the proposal by Shedd, who wanted to fill in the 53-acre area of Lake Michigan adjacent to his property for industrial purposes.
