Next 6 Weeks.
WASHINGTON, Sept. 27 (U, P.). —Office of price administration officials expressed hope today that the next six weeks would bring an improvement in the current sugar shortage plaguing the nation’s housewives. : The tight sugar situation was said to:be the result of overly generous rations to home canners and a serious manpower shortage in refineries. The officials said that OPA, on the basis of 1943 records, set a bigger allowance of 25 pounds of sugar per person this year for canning purposes, only fo see a four or five-fold increase in the number of people who eanned their own fruit.
Production Down
In ‘addition, beet sugar production has been down and consumers in the Midwest have had to be supplied from Gulf coast and eastern refineries which are now six to eight weeks behind on orders, Officials were fairly confident, that all factors would improve by the end of October. If not, they said, rations may have te be cut when the next sugar stamp becomes valid in mid-November. Civilian sugar consumption this

Murray's mention of possible war-end changes in the stabilization program was a reference to an assertion by WLB Chairman William H, Davis that the end of the war in Europe was “certain” to bring changes in the nation's wage policy. 8 “It would be outrageous for this board to suggest that the outcome of this case must be further delayed or the effective date of .the directive postponed pending fure = ther developments on the military front,” Murray said.
