Doubts Soldier Vote Tampering

LOGANSPORT, Ind, Sept. 26 (U, P.)~Cass County Clerk Dewey Schmidt, who last week said that he suspected tampering and censorship of several war ballot letters from servicemen, doubted today that his first impression was correct, Schmidt received another resealed envelope yesterday from a serviceman in the Pacific area, It , had been opened after sealing and transparent tape had been placed across one end. But the Pacific fighter wrote on the envelope that he had reopened it to make sure the ballots were prepared properly. The clerk said that the other “tampered” war ballot letters may have resulted from similar circumstances, or that heat and moisture in the Pacific climate had ‘sealed the ertvelopes before they reached the voter, requiring that they be opened and resealed.
