Home after three years duty in the Atlantic and Pacific, Herman Newton Scherrer, machinist's mate first class, is visiting his parents, Mr, and Mrs. Leon Scherrer, 2005 Barth ave. a Machinist's Mate Scherrer, who is 23, entered the navy shortly after his graduation from Southport high school in May, 1941. Assigned to an auxiliary boat, he served with the fleet in the Atlantic around Iceland and Newfoundland for almost a year. He later was transferred to duty in the Pacific where he has served 29 months. Assigned to bring up supplies to

Machinist’s Mate Scherrer graduated from University Heights grade school and Southport high. While in high school he joined the Naval reserve and also played guard on the Southport grid team.
