Heroic Hoosier Medic Dies Going fo Aid of Wounded

*pte. Barry Cranfill Jr. of Yudianapolis was -killed in action May 29 in Itnly but he gave his life so “that scores of wounded American infantrymen might live. The 20-year-old Hoosier, husband of Mrs. Betty J. Cranfill, 78 N. Holmes ave., was an infantry medic with the 45th “Thunderbird” division, While going to the assistance of several riflemen who were felled in an action, he lost his life. During a major attack on a strongly defended German position, the rifle company to which Pvt. Cranfill ' was attached suffered severe casualties in the four ‘days the battle lasted. The young Indianapolis ‘medic worked. over the wounded under blazing machinegun and artillery fire and in one day he helped evacuate more than 50 litter cases. : When he should have been getting much-needed sleep, he rose frequently at night to assist other
