_ DISINFECTION. OF AIR SEEN GURBING COLDS

By Science Service CLEVELAND, Sept, 8 —Air disinfection may help check the wpread of epidemics- of colds and influenza, Dr. L. J. Buttolph of the Nela Park engineering division of - General Electric Co. declared at the American Congress of Physical Therapy here this morning. Man-made ultraviolet rays would be the means of accomplishing the air disinfection he described. The value of ultraviolet air disInfection in hospitals has already been proved, he said, adding that tests in schools have been promising and are being extended. Occasional: cases of colds or other respiratory infections probably cannot be prevented, but the waves of illnesses that cause closing of an entire schoolroom, or 20 per cent fo 30 per cent absenteeism in factories in early winter, probably can be prevented, he indicated.
