Sugar Hints

While sugar rationing isn't the 'headache it'used to be, home écon- | omists suggest these hints to make {sugar go that ‘much further: (1) Add sugar last in cooking dried fruits==it-takegdess; (2) Thoroughly dissolve sugar in beverages-—obvi= ously less is needed if you leave none in the bottom of the- cup; (3) Serve fresh ripe fruits 1 ever possible—they require little or no- sugar at all,

OUR PEOPLE have come a long way down the road of tolerance since ‘the last war. There is less bigotry nd a better understanding of racial issues than existed in 1914. Perhaps you live where events seem ta disprove that statement. And it’s true, of course, that unrest and ill will have not vanished, and that trouble has been fostered of late by agitators who, under the guise of - justice, have started trends they cannot stop. That's the worst thing about agitators—they seldom know where their clamors may lead. Yet in spite > of dissensions, many thousands of other Americans are working hdrd to improve the feeling between Protestants and Catholics, between Jews and Gentiles, between negroes and whites. Recently Supreme Court Justice Frank Murphy, who heads the national committee against the persecution of Jews, had responses from hundreds of prominent men and women offering to help in the effort. In many communities groups of citizens have: joined together to settle neighborhood strife based on religious and racial differences. 2 n ” THERE'S A GREAT deal of serious thinking going on about these problems, Most of us know we've got to get along and that no single religion or race is without worth, or will be without blame if hatreds grow. Men and women of goodwill must work together to prevent men and women of 11 will from wrecking all’ the splendid things that have. been built in this country. * These hatreds, if not curable, cer- | tainly can be held. in check, To. do jthat will take common sense, toler-

Tolerance and goodwill are not bestowed on us like government handouts, or mandates from politicians or in sermons from pulpits. They have Yo be cultivated, some- | times slowly and painfully, by the individual himself. :

Nutrition is being highlighted

this month because effort is still required to improve health though
