Lt. Jack P. Starkey, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Starkey, 1441 N. Alabama st, was one of the first fighter pilots to land on the Myitkyina air strip. He had only 20 gallons of gasoline left. Lt. Starkey, who wears the distinguished flying cross and the air medal with one oak leaf cluster, has been in the China-Burma-India theater for a year.
