‘Double ‘Indemnity’ Opens On Local Screen.
“Double Indemnity,” which opened yesterday at the Indiana, not only points a moral as Hollywood fs apt to do but also gets
favorites on the screen be punished. Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck are the punishees and Edward G. Robinson does an un~ usually quiet job of sitting back and letting crime practically solve itself. . MacMurray is a mild enough sort of individual, even for an insurance salesman, until he gets the treatment that the males of the movie audiences have been getting from Miss Stanwyck for several years : A Little Cheating Between them they manage a “foolproof” way to cheat an insurance company out of a little double indemnity. The fact that Miss Stanwyck’s husband was placed in a somewhat difficult position as a consequence is of no consequence to them at first, Probably no movie actress could have done a better job than Miss Stanwick in her role right “down the line,” as she remarks in the picture.
