Airborne Troopers Atkins And Sweet in Assault On Normandy.
Two Indianapolis men, Cpl. John Pp. Sweet, 47 W. 32d st, and Pvt. Joseph Atkins, 816 N, Meridian st.,
served with the 82d airborne division which fought the enemy 33 days in Normandy without relief. The unit dropped behind enemy lines, fighting for nearly 34 hours before contact with friendly forces, and continuing for 33 days in the battle, accomplishing every mission assigned it.
