fire which caused damage estimated | at over $25,000 at the Alvord Oil Co.'s refining plant at 1501 S. Senate ave. yesterday afternoon, while deputy sheriffs and county prisoners fought threatening grass fires around the city. The Alvord fire resulted in the serious burning of Edward Simmons, 45, of 334 W. 12th st, who was working in the contact housc of the refinery when the explosion occurred. He suffered third-degrée burns on his back, facé and legs and is in a serious condition at City hospital. Cause of the explosion is unknown, Valuable machinery, lubricating oil and two buildings were completely destroyed before firemen answering the two-alarm call were able to bring the exploding oil under control.
