Joachim von Ribbentrop’s visit to Finland portends for that country a fate similar to Nazi-occupied Hungary, in the belief of observers here. Von Ribbentrop is reported to have spent a couple of days in Helsinki urging the Finns to continue their struggle against the Russians. Only a miracle can save Finland and no Finns possess the requisite courage to perform such a miracle in the face of the increasing Nazi : domination,
Peace Feeler Fails
The latest feeble Finnish ,peace { feeler has-met with no success. Finlland’s only hope of peace now is | parliamentary overthrow of the Ryti regime. Parliament is still in | session today but no pro-peace acition is expected from that week\kneed body. | The Germans are determined to keep Gen. Eduard Dietl's 100,000 troops intact in northern Finland. It is possible for them to send some troops from Estonia, but the Germans are in no position to do soj| while bigger battles rage closer to home. That Von Ribbentrop has visited | Finland is indication of the burning importance the Nazis attach to this sinking satellite. As it looks here, {the Finnish government has vir- | tually delivered the country into the {hands of the Nazis who are apparlently “determined to fight to the] last Finn.”

A minimum highway death rate {of 15 over the Independence Day | week-end in Indiana was predicted {today by Don F. Stiver, director of the state division of public safety. State police records show that 311 persons were killed in the first five months of this year against 236 in the same period a year ago, That is an increase of 31 per cent, He said that the increasing traffic deaths at a time when the use of automobiles was curtailed showed carelessness on the part of the drivers “who are driving faster and who have forgotten how to drive.”
