Paper Parings
Most kinds of writing and sheet papers are due to be sliced cven thinner in a coming revision of the order controlling their manufacture. There have been a nuniber of cuts on the weight of writing paper since paper became a critical war material. This time,
perts say they have cut to the bone, Bleach for whitening paper has been cut back S per cent this month, too, but no noticeable increase in tattle-tale gray paper is expected yet.

Seasonal Decline in Egg
Production Seen by WFA
By ANN STEVICK NEA Staff Writer WASHINGTON, May 25.—What goes up must come down, even eggs. War food administration calculations show that current alltime high egg production will ge down mere sharply than usual when the seasonal decline sets in later in the summer, During the early days of warm weather, however, there will still be an egg surplus. Department of agriculture nutritionists are think-
requirements, manufacturers re port.. . . . No hope for any more mechanical refrigerators to be released to retailers for desperate householders to buy. WPB reports that the stockpile is so low that hospitals and institutions
serving many people will need them all.

PATTON HELD UP
Senate’ Group Action Is Prompted. by Slapping Incident and Speech.
WASHINGTON, May 25 (U. P).— Members of the senate military affairs committee today based further delay on a promotion for Lit. Gen. George S. Patton Jr., on two points—the slapping of enlisted men {and a speech in which he foresaw | the United States and Great Britain ruling the post-war world. A proposal to promote Patton’s permanent rank from colonel to major general, submitted with a list of 13 other promotions last Oct. 1, was held up by the committee when it finally acted on the remainder of the list yesterday. It remains on the committee roster, however, and may be acted upon at a subsequent meeting or just allowed to die with the expiration of the present congress without any committee action. The motion fo pass over the Patton promotion was made by Senator Warren R. Austin (R. Vt.),-who told the committee that he proposed to delay action on Patton's promotion because of “his whole record of conduct toward the armed forces (the slapping incident) and toward the public in his utterances.”

hard today to lose him again. The monkey escaped from a woman who had received him as a gift from.her son. After futile and gentlemanly persuasion, the ‘police turned a hose on the mon‘key as he sat in a tree. The waterlogged monkey surrendered to capture and the triumphant police presented him to the woman. She said no thanks, he had too much trouble from the beginning and she didn’t want him—the police could keep him. The officers, who agree with her that the monkey is troublesome, reluctantly accepted, for the time being.
