Pensive First Entered

Pensive was the first colt to be entered, with his barn shooting for the second victory in a bid for racing’s triple crown. The chestnut colt, who scored a surprise four and one-half length victory in the run for the roses, again will have Conn McCreary in the saddle when he shoots for the second major three-year-old turf crown tomorrow. Trainer Ben Jones’ said that if he wins this one, Pensive will be sent after the Belmont Stakes—last of the big three titles. The second official entry was Stymie, owned by Mrs. Ethel Jacobs. The colt's name was telephoned yesterday from New York but was not dropped into the entry box until after Pensive had been listed. No boy was listed for Stymie, who passed up the Derby, but Nick Jemas was expected to be up. George D. Widener's Platter, the probable favorite despite Pensive's Derby triumph, was the third entry. Trainer Bert Mulholland said that the chestnut colt, who won the Pimlico futurity and the Walden

Longden to Be Aboard

The Widener entry will be (handled by Johnny Longden, who rode Count Fleet to the triple crown last year. The colt was highly regarded by the rail birds because of an apparent liking for the Pimlico oval, which hasn't always suited Pensive. However, the Derby winner worked a half in :51 today. - The fleld of seven expected starters was completed when Trainer Jack Gaver dropped the name of Greentree stable’s Stir Up into the box. The chestnut gelding, Derby favorite who found the mile and a quarter Louisville distance too long and wound up third, again will be ridden’ by Eddie Arcaro.
