E SERVICE STORE § U9 W. Wash. L State Hous
ing placed upon the dinner.
The governor has not been in Washington since the 1941 inaugural. He has turned down repeated requests, some coming directly from the White House, to visit the President. He explained always that he had too much to do here. - Most pressing of the problems now confronting him is the selec tion of a successor to George M. Victory of the regulars hers sure the nomination of Ralph Gates, former state chairman is seeking the gubernatorial nomination. Leaders.of the regular organization, Joseph J. Daniels, James L. Bradford and Henry E. Ostrom, are all-out for Mr. Gates. This group is also Homer E. Capehart for senator and the Capehart forces are greatly cheered by the apparent out come. Victory by the regular organization will affect the aspirations of Lt. Gov. Charles Dawson, Washington township resident, in much the same manner as Mayor Tyndall. Mr. Dawson, however, has much more strength than the mayor throughout the state and is expected to make his formal announcement shortly. : 8 5 =
Uniforms Ineffective?
LOCAL OBSERVERS are inclined to believe that uniforms have little effect upon the voters, Judging from the poor showing being made in the G. O. P. congressional primary by the two soldier candidates, Capt. Ralph E. Updike of the marine corps and Lt. Edward D. Lewis of the army air forces. : Neither of the candidates, however, had the backing of any or-
