Graduates to Pass on Symbolic Gift to | Juniors. |

A torch, symbolizing the ideals! and traditions of the Tech high school class of 1944, will be presented to the juniors, the class of 45, at the commencement on

June 8. The committee in charge will be, composed of faculty members and seniors. Faculty representatives in-! clude Miss Ruth Stone, Mrs. Eva Lycan and Dwight C. Park; senior members, Duard Ballard, John; Fraim, Merritt Holman, Harold Springer, Miss M. Louise Williams | and Miss Beverly Loop.

To Celebrate Arbor Day

The traditional Arbor day will] be celebrated at Tech Wednesday, with the planting of a tulip tree, chinquapin oak and ivy during a senior assembly. The ivy, a tribute to Tech students in the service, will be planted beside the Arsenal, West Residence, | guard house and the main gate. John Fraim will address the class and the ivy and trees will be presented by Miss Evelyn Curry to Hanson Anderson, the prinicpal. Music and the reading of poetry will complete the program.

The new officers of the Girls’ Concert club are Miss Bette Kim-' mell, president; Miss Marcia Geckler, vice president; Miss Janet White, secretary-treasurer; Miss Marjorie: Wilson and Lois Horning, | librarians, and Miss Henrietta Clay- | ‘ton, hostess. Miss Louise Swan is the instructor. |

DR. ARTHUR S. COPE | GETS $1000 AWARD

Dr. Arthur S. Cope, a Butler uni- | versity graduate, received the $1000 pure chemistry award presented by the American Chemical society. The | award is given to the chemist who| does the most outstanding research work of the year. Dr. Cope’s research was in plastics end drugs and he received the grant for this while teaching at Columbia university. A native of Dunreith, he graduated cum laude from Butler in 1929, obtained his Ph. D. degree from the University | of Wisconsin, was given the Gug- | genheim fellowship and elected to! the chair of chemistry at Columbia. |
