WELFARE

The need of des support of private soc work agencies in Marion county was stressed yesterday by Kenneth W, Miller, executive secretary of the United War and Community fund, . before a sefhinar group sponsored by the Indiana university training school for social workers. ~ ~“Welfare budgets have not kept pace with increase in commodity costs and wages,” Mr. Miller said. “While financing of welfare needs arising out of demobilization, un= employment, reconversion and reemployment .is basically a governmental obligation, it is recognized that continued support of voluntary social work agencies will be necessary.”

Speaking of the development of the National War fund, he said: “It is reassuring to know that the fund will be dissolved at the end of the war. The increasing trend toward nationalization and regimentation of private social work agencies is disquieting to many.”
