crop until fall Planting rows of greens is a common juistake and yields more than can be used. It is wiser to sow three successive crops, at twoweek intervals, in short rows. A half-ounce of seed is enough for 100 feet of row. The seed should be treated with red copper oxide before sowing. Purchase “only disease-resistant varieties.

Prepare Soil Well

A well - prepared and drained soil is best. A more abundant crop can be expected through bank fertilizing, which is placing fertilizer in shallow furrows alongside the seed row. Then sow seed rather sparsely and cover with a half-inch of soil. Firm the soil down with a flat board or the flat back of your hoe. Seedlings are thinned to stand 3 to 5 inches apart in the rows. Side dress with fertilizer, strong in nitrogen if possible when the plants are one-third grown. Seed of New Zealand spinach may be sown indoors a month before the garden soil warms up and the seedlinBs transplated 24 inches apart; or seed is sown out= of-doors in May and’ plants thinned. Constant cutting back of the growing greens gives continuous supply. Plant lice or aphids may be controlled with a nicotine-sulfate spray. Soak seed of New Zealand spinach overnight before sowing.
