Selection of a jury of middle-aged business and professional men was completed yesterday.

Second Attempt

It was the second attempt by the |state to try Lonergan, who twice was rejected for the American armed forces because of bisexual tendencies. The first time the jury panel was dismissed before a single venireman had been seated. Completion of the jury followed admission by the state that the alleged confession of Lonergan, after his surrender last fall never was signed. To counter this weakness in the state's case, the district attorney's office was reported ready to present evidence which, paradoxically, was provided by Patricia Lonergan herself during the final moments of her life.

Doctor to Testify

Dr. Alexander S. Wiener, blood specialist, was reported ready to testify that skin found under the heiress’ manicured nails was from Lonergan’s face, . After Lonergan returned to Toronto following the New York weekend during which his wife was slain, Dr. Roy Thomas, police surgeon of that city, found fresh scratches on his face. Judge James G. Wallace, who will her the trial, told the 12 jurors and two alternates he did not intend to lock them up during the trial, but he put them on their honor not to read newspapers, talk about the case or go near the scene of the crime. “Don’t any of you start trying to be super-sleuths,” he warned.
