GUERRILLA WAR UNITY SOUGHT

King May Weld Breach -Between Rival Leaders

In Jugosiavia.

By HELEN KIRKPATRICK Times Foreign Correspondent : LONDON, March 16.-—-Dramatie decisions - may be taken by this week-end to unite Gen. Draja Mikhailovitch’s Chetniks and Marshal Josip Broz (Tito) Partisans in Jugoslavia for a concerted drive against the Germans under the leadership of young King

ican officials. Peter's months in Cairo, away from the dominating queen mother Marie, have matured and Miss Kirkpatrick seasoned the young monarch, He has seen facts which he was never before permitted to see and he is determined to unite his people. His government, headed by Bozidar Pouritch, which had been opposing Peter's attempts to heal the breach with Tito, has also decided that its bread is buttered on Peter's side and not on the queen mother’s.

Opposed to Tito Some members of the government, in consultation with Queen Marie, have been taking a deter mined stand against Tito in advis« ing the young king. They presume ably are among those who were responsible for keeping Peter ine communicado in Cairo, intercepting his mail and issuing false reports on his attitude. It may malso subsequently transpire, when the full story can be told, that Queen Marie was also insur ing her position by maintaining prie vate lines to Tito as well as to Mik« hailovitch, But it looks now as though her dominating role—simi« lar to that the late Queen Marie of Rumania played, has ended. The young king has grown up. It is hoped that a plan for Jugoslay unity will be devised. Its basis will be a single military committee composed of representatives of Mikhailovitch and Tito, under the supervision of British and American military missions, on a freed Adriatic island. It is hoped that arms will be supplied to Mikhailovitch and that then co-ordinated. action can be taken by the two guerrilla armies inside Jugoslavia—one in the eastern zone under Mikhailovitch, and the other in the western zone under Tito.
