TRUTH BRIEFLY STATED
The English word church is found first in Matthew 16:18, when Christ said: “I will build my church.” It is translated from the Greek word ecclesia and means called out. Therefore, -the church is of great importance, for it is impossible to be called cut of sin and not be in the church.
The church is also. called “the house of God” (1 Tim. 3:15). House of God in this connection means family of God. The word house is often used in the Bible to mean family. For instance when the keeper of the prison asked: “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’ he was told to ‘believe, in the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house” (Acts 16:30-31). See also Acts 16:34; Heb. 3:6, 11-7. The church is the house or family of God. We cannot join the church (family of God) anymore than we could join our earthly father's family, but we are born into it (John 3:5). When one is born again one is a child of God, and & member of His family— the church. All saved people are children of God; and all children of God are in His family. When one obeys the Gospel of Christ one is saved and added to the church. (Rom. 1°16; Acts 2:47.
Some have minimized the value of the church by teaching that salvation is outside the church. Such phrases as: “Be saved and join the church" are not found in God's Word. We might as well teach that one can saved and not be a child of God.
Pree tracts on how to become a Christian are sent upon request.
