Endorse Fred Hines

THE SIXTH district indorsement of Fred Hines, former Hamilton circuit judge, for an appellate court judgeship is not a slap, as it was interpreted by some, at the appellate court ambitions of Chief Deputy Attorney General Frank Hamilton, Wnue Mr, Hamilton lives at Terre Haute, also in the sixth district, he would run for the appellate court from the southern district while Mr. Hines’ residence would make him a candidate from the northern district. Mr. Hamilton, if he runs, will seek the appellate court seat now . held by Juage Edgar Blessing of Danvilie, who has - been ill for several months, Mr. Hines, if he runs, will seek the seat now held by Judge Dan Flanagan of Ft. Wayne. There seems to be litue likelihood of unseating - Judge Flanagan. Sixth district leaders explained that Mr. Hines was indorsed to keep party harmony in the district.

The situation is similar to that after the 1930—Hoover mid-term genera] elections when the count was 219 Democrats and 214 Republicans. The Democrats organized the house then and elected a speaker for the first time since losing control in the 1918 general elections which took - place mid-term in Woodrow Wilson's second administration. : There appears to be no chance whatever of the Deemocrats improving their position in by-elec-tions to fill existing vacancies. Of the five vacancies, four were held by Democrats and one by a Republican,

The all clear signal rang out and the call came to : “secure all stations,” , “The peaceful moon again shone bright,” he wrote, and prayers went up in hopes that they would not engage the enemy in any more midnight raids. Mate Whitehead has been overseas since last May. The raid about which he wrote home took place in October.
