lich, district manager of the Indiangpolis war production office explained today. “It's about time this sheath knife question is straightened out,” he said, a knife the army will provide it. Ever since the story went the rounds that sheath knives are needed, small. machine ‘shops around the - country have ‘been violating WPB regulations by turning them out. Old automobile bumpers, tire irons or any Other kind of second-hand steel has been ground into a knife, giving a bright polish and sold for a lot more money that it's worth. Many of thesé knives have flaws, too “A soldier doesn’t need it. When he reaches a combat zone the army issues whatever knife is needed—and no flaws in it. You wouldn't think of sending a soldier a gun or a portable field kitchen, would you?”
