Good Posture
Good body mechanics means aligned that the force of gravity is counterbalanced with the maximum efficiency. To accomplish wens this balance, ; SH the spinal; § curves must. be within the norSF mal limits, the 9 lower abdomen 5 ment of the legs. Lf legs and feet 8 correct for supporting the 4 weight of the . * body. The feet Dr. Masters must possess normal arches and roll neither inward nor outward.
Body Changes
During pregnancy, the enlargement of the abdomen shifts the center of gravity forward, a position which is compensated for by increasing the curvature of the spine so that the upper part of the body is carried further back. As pregnancy progesses, there is a relaxation of the ligamentous structures that support the pelvic bones both in front and in back. During the latter months of pregnancy, the enlarging uterus presses upon the contents of the upper abdomen and forces the diaphragm upward, To these changes is added the additional burden of increased weight amounting to 15 to 20 pounds. As a result of these anatomic changes, low back pain is a frequent complaint of pregnant women. It is due to straire on the ligaments which support the body in the erect position, despite the shift of the center of gravity, a change which causes the back to be held in a position of increased extension. The pain often ine creases as pregnancy advances,

For Comfort in Pregnancy
By DR. THOMAS D. MASTERS Times Special Writer Pregnancy is a normal process but it imposes a burden on the body. As a result of this added strain, the margin between health | and disease is narrowed. The anatomic changes which accompany pregnancy so affect the body alignment that minor disturbances in body ‘mechanics are frequently exaggerated and new disturbances may develop. that the parts of the body are so

With the relaxation of the sacroiliac joints and the increased strain on their ligamentous sup= ports, sciatic pain may occur. The increasing prominence of the ab. domen is associated with a fore ward tilt of the pelvis, which in turn rotates the legs outward. This rotation causes the foot to roll outward, a position which places an excessive burden on the -longitudinal arches and other foot strains, which cause pain in both feet and legs and may produce swelling of the ankles, . If good body mechanics prevailed before pregnancy, the minimum of disability will be the reresult of the changes imposed by

When peace comes and the boys are home, Indianapolis will be a good place in which to live—to buy your home, to.rear your children and to enjoy the friendly Hoosier spirit which has made it a great and growing city. We want to see you welcome that day and we want to welcome it ourselves; it’s the day we have had fixed in our minds ever since Pearl Harbor. But it’s got to come the right way —through victory. Like you we are doing everything we can to back up the men on the fighting fronts— buying bonds, paying taxes, curtailing our services so that every ounce of strength goes to the boys over there. We can take it and glory in it, too, just like you can take it."We made no
complaint when our cans went to war; when our crowns were decreased; when our delivery service was reduced; when our malt quota was cut, or when the ‘armed forces asked for part of our product. Those things were called for by a
