She had registered at approximately 4:45 and three minutes later called for half a dozen “cokes” and a pitcher of ice. The “cokes” and ice were delivered by Bellboy Alfred Bayne Jr. who, after the murder, told police he had seen a woman in black sit ting on the corporal’'s bed smoking a cigaret. Police have attached considerable significance to the fact that the woman in black was in Cpl. Ridings’ room within three to five minutes after the latter registered.

Too Presumptious

‘That might indicate, investigators hold, that the woman already was in the hotel at the time of Cpl. Ridings’ arrival or that she might have accompanied the WAC to the hotel and stood by, near the elevator, for instance, while Cpl Ridings was registering. It is presumed that the WAC and her woman-in-black friend might have ascended in the elevator together.

SEASICKNESS is ordinarily an affliction of the more fortunate and prosperous times. The remoteness of the battlefronts in this war

requires the transportation across the oceans of millions of men who

‘might never had the experience otherwise, however, and many will undergo for the first time the real distress of seasickness. Motion illness is not uncommon, nor is it confined to the sea. Many

people notice uneasiness to the point of nauses and vomiting when subjected to the motion of trains, busses, roller-coasters, streetcars, and even elevators and automobiles. The widespread use of airplanes has introduced a new

The mechanism of seasickness is complicated and probably re sults from various causes. The most potent factor is considered to be the stimulation of the nerve cents in the brain that 'nduce vomiting by the effect of a constant shifting of the body about its various axes and the stimulation of the organ of equilibrium . beyond its tolerance.

. A » Consideration of Cause

SOME MAINTAIN that the stimulation arises in the alimentary tract, as the motion of the body and the intra-abdomtrial struétures are independent. There - is a visual component which operates in some way to cause or .aggravate nausea. It is probable that the unusual “and frequently repeatéd stimuli from the internal eaf (organ of equilibrium), alimentary tract, and eyes are all concerned in provoking the nausea and vomiting frequently ex-

and vitally seri-

Because of the various types of mechanism involved, there is no single treatment except placing both nates squarely om solid ground. Among the numerous treatments suggested, the most

reliable are sedative drugs and atropine and related drugs. As prophylactic measure, those who are susceptible should undertake the journey with an empty intestinal traet should travel in a reclining position whenever possible,

The mystery woman was reinjected into the investigation last night when a young man came to headquarters and asked to see detectives working on “that WAC case.” -
