Take, also M-G-M’s “Keeper | - of the Flame,” in which Katharine Hepburn played practically the same] . role that Laurence Olivier played in “Rebecca.” The plot of “Rebecca” was motivated by the memory of Olivier’s . dead wife, whom everybody thought (he had loved. The same thing happened in “They Drive by Night,” with Ida Lupino and George Raft. That's what we mean by a rehash. Similarly, the motion picture, “Spawn of the North,” did not tell the story of which Barrett Willoughby put into her book of that name, but was a. rehash of “The Virginian,” which, by the way, has been
Charmian Londop came to Hollywood to watch her late husband, the redoubtable Jack, make love to her on a bridle path in 1903. It was an eerie feeling for the sprightly Mrs. London, ‘The movie makers, of course, were doing a film called “Jack London.” Michael O'Shea was playing the adventurer turned one of the most successful novelists, of this century; nedhead-

Wanna Be a Chorus Girl?

Experienced and opportunity for beginners. Top salary. Long season. ReHearsals begin Aug. 27th. Opening Sept. 3rd. Good environment. Call or write, 8. Green, Fox Theater, 242 N. Illinois st. LI-9092.
Jededrdrininiioioieioioirieirioiokoioiokokok Once upon a time “chorus girl” . jobs were hard to get. Now, the shoe (or rather, dancing slipper) is on the other foot—-there just aren’t
any chorus girls. At least they're finding it hard to fill a complement of only 14 at the Fox theater, the N. Illinois st. burlesque house. According to S. Green, manager of the emporium of risque fare, girls for the Fox chorus are exceedingly scarce, so few and far between that he has had to advertise, a procedure which in previous times was practically unheard of. . The causes for the shortage are not hard to discover. Mr. Green attributes the present lack to the fact that the girls are currently playing at carnivals or working for Uncle Sam in defense plants. “Of course,” he is quick to point cut, “Indianapolis was never a plentiful town like large cities of the Chicago, Frisco and New York type. Then, too, the fact that-the house was closed for the summer contributed to the girls drifting away.” According to the ad, conditions are easy—rehearsals begin Aug. 27 and the Fox’s season is scheduled to open just one week later on Sept. 3. . .

“The Sea Wolf,” was produced five times, starring respectively Hobart Bosworth, Ralph Ince, Milton Sills
during the production), Noah Beery and Edward G. Robinson. All this indicates that the London novels and short stories are as valuable as they ever were. All is well with Charmian, now about 70 and looking 20 years younger, except that she’s about to present to the captain of the Liberty ship, Jack London, her most - precious possession, the bell of the Snark. She and her husband spent two and a half years aboard the tiny boat, Snark, on a round trip to Australia, and giving up that bell is a wrench.
