Domestic Ranges Burning
Gas, Coal, Wood or Oil Affected.
WASHINGTON, Aug. 19 (U. P). —Nation-wide rationing of domestic cooking and heating stoves will be-
come effective Aug. 24, the OPA an-| nounced today.
Beginning that date, stoves which burn coal, wood, oil or gas will be
available for consumer ‘ purchase \ ‘only upon issuance of rationing |
board certificates.
The program will supplant the|.
present rationing of coal and wood
heating stoves in 32 states and the|
District of Columbia. From the viewpoint of manufacturers, distributors and dealers in the stove trade, OPA said, the program will be fully instituted in a
series of time-tabled operations
ending Oct. 7. Dealers and distributors will be required to register with boards in their areas and will file current inventories of rationed stoves so that regional quotas can be assigned. Determining Factors Quotas will depend on the number of stoves which the war production board makes available by manufacture as well as by the past use of stoves in specific areas, population shifts, fuel - supplies and other factors. The following types of stoves will not be rationed: electric heating and cooking equipment; cooking
equipment which will burn only
charcoal or alcohol; sheet-metal
stoves wi uilt-in water jackets or coils; gas hot plates; gasoline camp stoves; central heating equipment such as furnaces, and all stoves designed specifically for commercial, industrial, agricultural and institutional purposes.

AMERICANS SMASH BASE AT TRONDHEIM
STOCKHOLM, Aug. 19 (U. P.).— American bombers smashed three and a half years of German work at Trondheim, Norway, in 10 minutes in the raid July 24, destroying the partly finished U-boat base among other objectives, reliable Norwegian circles said today. The raid was made by two waves of planes with 21 bombers in each formation. Artificial fog used in an effort to screen the targets served only to blind anti-aircraft’ gunners, it was said.

On Pleasure Driving ‘Might Stay.
WASHINGTON, Aug. 19 (U. P). —Eastern motorists today received a warning that unless they tse a lot less gasoline during the rest of August the promised lifting of the pleasure driving ban may not occur on Sept. 1. ‘ Acting Petroleum Administrator Ralph K. Davies announced that for three weeks the flow of petroleum supplies to the east has been considerably below the level prevailing during most of July, and that present civilian consumption of gasoline in the east is in excess of allotments for August.
obviously delay the time that more liberal supplies of gasoline can be Hike available for civilian use,” he The office of price administration has promised that the pleasure driving ban would be lifted Sept: 1 —if easterners abide by the ban during August and if supplies of gasoline for civilian use in the East are sufficiently high. Informed of Davies’ announcement, OPA officials reiterated their determination to get rid of the ban by the end of the month if at all possible, but conceded that there probably would have to be a change in the trend of gasoline consumption the rest of the month. HOME WOES CAUSE OF MURDER SPREE
WILLOWS, Cal, Aug. 19 (U.
