day ten years ago when he was reportedly hired as a commentator for a New York radio station at $35 per week as a result of a printed page debate with Norman Thomas in the Nation magazine.

Tonight Heatter will celebrate his

10th year as a radio commeritator when he doubles as guest contestant

on the “Double or Nothing” quiz show over WIBO at 8:30. Of course, he’ll be at his regular stand a half hour earlier on the same station. He is reported to have made his sudden rise to fame one night in’ 1936 as he was making a broadcast, waiting for the announcement that Bruno Hauptmann, convicted kidnapper of the Lindberg baby, had been electrocuted. The story goes that Heatter, while waiting for the news, had to ad-lib for 53 minutes until he received official announcement of Hauptmann’s electrocution. More than 45,000 wires, phone calls and letters poured in as a result of his ad-libbing. It seems Gabriel Heatter’s popularity hasn’t, diminished in the least. fr 'w ; GOOD LISTENING Tomorrow.

| cup sugar | tsp. cinnamon | cup shortening I pinch salt 2 cups rolled oats 1/2 tsp. vanilla I cup sticky raisins (seeded) 2 eggs 2 cups Enriched | scant tsp. soda

E-Z-BAKE Flour 4 Tbsp. sweet milk

oats. Combine raisins’ and E-Z-BAKE Flour; add cinnamon, salt, vanilla, and eggs. Mix. Dissolve soda in milk and ‘mix thoroughly with hands as dough should be very stiff. Form in small mounds with teaspoon on a cookie sheet. Bake in a quick oven (450 degrees F.) for 12 to |5 minutes. Yield: 60 coqkies, :
