DEAR JANE JORDAN—I am 25 years old. I have been married five years and have one child. In a couple of months I expect to have another. My husband comes in of an evening very tired. When I ask him if he would want to go somewhere he says no he is too tired. But later in the evening he leaves on the excuse that he has to meet Bill, a very close friend of ours. When I call up Bill's wife she says it is true, that Bill has left to meet my husband. We are both very worried. I never ask George what he does for fear he will get mad and leave me, and I am in no condition to look after myself right now. What should I do, go to mother’s, demand an explanation, or ask for a divorce; something I do not want to do? I want to have a family, I want fo have George and above all I want to be happy. George is due to be called in the army soon. EXPECTANT. : ® n 2 Answer—Probably fatigue is the cause of your husband's behavior. When he gets home at night he is tired and feels the need of relaxation. At the present you are deeply involved with children and aren't the carefree companion you used to be. This is not your fault and a more considerate man would not leave you alone night after night. He would recognize the fact that you, too, need change and diversion. As you so wisely state you are in no condition to look after yourself just now. Any of the moves you suggest - would make you more miserable than.you are now. You wouldn't be happy at home with your mother after having had your own establishment, nor would it be fair to take your problems home to her because you didn’t like the way things were going. The divorce is an even worse suggestion because you need your husband and your children need their father. Besides the fact that a
from home does not constitute grounds for divorce. Plenty of otherwise good husbands still fancy themselves as bachelors where diversion is concerned. Your third suggestion, that you demand an explanation, is best. But why demand? Ask is a better word, indicative of a better attitude. Suggest that he spend only an occasional night alone with Bill and include you and Bill's wife oftener. Explain that you, too, have needs as pressing as his and persuade him to take you along. To demand would be to arouse his resistance. An even wiser method would. be
he would enjoy. - Perhaps Bill's wife will help you plan something. After all, George is going to beacalled in another two months and the problem will be solved automatically— when he comes back from the army he may be a changed man with a

Times Women’s Editor BLOCK'S SPRANG TWO INNOVATIONS in the store's anu back-to-college fashion show held yesterday afternoon. The first was the absence of. a running commentary on the styles as they were shown. This, no doubt, was because of a shift in locale for the show, heretofore held in the auditorium. This year the models paraded on the
audience spread to the far corners
The girls wore their own shoes —and that meant oxfords and play shoes that had lost their pristine newness; Norwegian moccasins a bit “squashed” at the heels but exactly right with 1 campus casuals. “w 2 # “FRONT AND CENTER” in the show were suits—tweeds, soft woolens, corduroys, flannels; in checks, herringbone, plaids and plain bright shades. The one that probably will get the biggest play. from the coed set is the Chesterfield with its black velvet collar facing in sharp contrast to the gay colors of its fabric. Dresses frequently repeated the suit theme by appearing in twopiece versions, often buttoned with huge metallic or jeweled fastenings. Corduroy, particularly a wide-waled variety, popped up again and again in the show, in luscious jewel tones as well as the more somber gunmetal. Coats ranged from the classic camelshair and reversible types to lavishly furred models. In the latter, rippling collars of fluffy fur shared honors with wide tuxedo revers of both the fluffy and flat kinds. 2 x = FUR COATS SHOWN were straight-line double-duty models with tiny collars taking fashion honors. Natural muskrat with contrasting collar and pocket flaps, gray kidskin, beaver and leopard cat were included. The number of “date bait” frocks shown indicates that the college girls hope the manpower shortage won’t be acute. Deep pleats and flounces and very full skirts were, of course, absent since government regulations have pared the silhouette down to the “body basic.” But nobody is going to miss them. One black crepe sheath ended at the region of the knees with two shallow circular flounces that provided plenty of “swish.” Another black velvet number had two vertical ruffles of black lace on the skirt front. 2 = 8 VIVIDLY OONTRASTING bands of fabfic highlighted still other models and jet and sequins and nailheads did their bit to brighten the.scene.
Among evening frocks, the bouffant models still rank first with the college girl and horizontally striped taffeta is out in front in the running, used ‘alone or in compination with velvet bodices. The models were the 12 members of Block’s college advisory beard: Divine Enright, Sweet Briar; Jo Ann and Betty Lou Ranstead, Butler; Bette Bowes, Elinor Beecher # and Barbara Meek, Indiana; Mickey Caylor, DePauw; Barbara Furr, Stephens; Martha Kibler, St. Mary-of-the-Woods; Elizabeth Peet, Purdue; Patty Smith, Smith, and Audrey Montrose, Briarcliff.
