In the Machine | IF YOU USE a washing machine, the clothes, in addition to being sorted for soaking, must be grouped with a view to being washed together to the best advantage. these days . . . you may prefer to make yourself a tall delicious glass of iced coffee. It will pep you up as it cools you off. To get the most out of your precious coffee quota, be sure to make it fresh, measuring coffee and water carefully. When your brew is finished, pour it at once into a glass filled with ice. Add sugar and cream to individual taste. Of course, many people prefer to drink iced coffee plain with nothing added to the delicious coffee flavor. Both ways are the ultimate in cool satisfaction.

Perhaps this affection for animals| is partly due to the fact that home | and pets are tied up together in so| many minds, and WACs, many] away from home for the first time, consciously or unconsciously, are drawn to them. Or perhaps it is because each WAC, realizing that she is simply a cog in a tremendous machine, is glad to find herself important as an individual, even if only to an aniimal. Maybe, too, the fun of feeding a puppy, of watching a playful kitten or of observing the growing {faith of a squirrel is reason enough. {Whatever the cause, it is nearly {always true that where you find a WAC, you find a pet-lover.
Join Dogs for Defense
“Tatters” was a great favorite with the girls of the all-WAC show, |“On the Double.” He belonged to Second Officer Becky White, writer and director, and although a highly bred French poodle, was not above earning his way by pulling a cart full of groceries for his busy mistress, Now, Tatters has left the second WAC training center and his khakiclad playmates, and is at home in Georgia waiting his call to active duty in “Dogs for Defense.” Out in the cantonment area, pets are especially numerous and wellloved. On interior guard duty, even in the small hours of the morning, WACs can be assured of at least one cat or one dog to help in their {lonely pacing. Company eight of one regiment adopted a cat. Eight days later, she [presented them with eight kittens, and on that same day, the company won the banner for the best-kept barracks in the battalion.
