CHARLESTON. 8. C_ July 15 (U. P.).—The story of a “free ride” on the slippery deck of an axis submerine was related today by 2d Mate Alfred M. Evjenth of a torpedoed American merchant ship sunk off the east coast early this month. Evjenth was one of 75 survivors of a crew of 78. The sinking was the second reported by the navy this month.
