Person, who had been honorably discharged from the navy, wes hunted by a poste of farmers and sherifi's deputies last Oct. 12, after residents of the vicinity reported that he had been frightening women by peering through the windows of farm homes. The defendants included former Sheriff John Trierweillver of Vigo county, Indiana, and three formor {deputies — james Elliott, Herbert { Beasley and Pearl Miller. The indictments charged that Trierweiller and another defendant Martin Kiado, a Wigo county farmer, “used a shotgun uvon Person” near Libertyville, Ind. A posse was formed and pursued Person across the state line into Edgar county, Illinois, the indictments charged.

Wounded | James Strickler, 72. a justice of the peace, found Person lying wounded near Paris, Ill, several hours after the pursuit began. Strickler took Person to his home, fed him and cleaned his wounds. Person later became frightened when he saw headlights of an automobile approaching Stricgler's| home, and he ran through a cornfield. His body was found 44 davs {later en Strickler’s farm by Paris! [law enforcement authorities. A coroner's jury said he died of internal hemorrhage.

An autopsy was conducted late yesterday, but Deputy Coroner Hubert L. Collins said results were inconclusive and chemical analysis of internal organs were awaited. Dr. R. N. Harger, Indiana university toxicologist who had charge of the examination, said three or four days may be required. The woman's father, Hearl Barnes, night maintenance man at the Y. W. C. A. and with whom his daughter made her home at 2227 E. Riverside drive, said neighbors told him they saw her leave home about 2 p. m. Monday. NEW YORK, July 14 (U. P)— Authoritative A. F. of L. sources said today that the committee appointed by the A. F. of L. executive council to negotiate with John L. Lewis for the return of his United Mine Workers to the A. F. of L. favored Lewis’ ¢ause and would meet in Washington next Tuesday to discuss! technical aspects. i Daniel J. Tobin, chairman of the committee and president of the teamsters’ union. and Matthew Woll, A. F. of L. vice president, are backing Lewis in his petition to rejoin the A. F. of I.. George Harrison, president of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks, third member of the committee, will go along with Tobin, it was said. Lewis will be invited to appear before the committee next week, the authoritative sources said, and willing to do to eliminate jurisdictional frictions between the United Mine Workers and various A. F. of L. unions, These disputes are mainly with the union's district 30, which has taken in a varied assortment of workers in industries covered by A. F. of L. unions.
