SEATTLE, July 2 (U, P.).—Edna Bausch, Seattle, a stewardess aboard a cargo vessel and the only woman eyewitness to the battle for Attu, told today how American soldiers isolated in the Aleutian islands reacted when they saw their first girl in months.
“They embarrassed me by standing and staring at me,” she said. “One soldier stood in the doorway of my quarters and said, ‘Mmm, I smell perfume. I'm just going to stand here and absorb it.”
