orothy Ellis Takes 4th Consecutive I W.G. A. Golf Crown

Cabin Varin | "Defeated by
3 and 2 Score
Dorothy Ellis, hard-hitting pubHe school teacher, annexed her fourth consecutive women’s city golf tournament this morning by turning back another school ‘marm, Carolyn Varin, by a score of 3 and 2. Miss Ellis made the turn in 41, four over regulation figures, but led Varin three up. Going into the back stretch, Miss Ellis in- - creased her lead by taking the 11th and 12th hole, going 5 up and putting Miss Varin in a hot spot. Miss Ellis was out of bounds on her No. 13 tee shot. She played a second ball which landed in a trap.
iss Varin came down through the|
middle for a par 5, making her four down and five to go. They tied the 14th hole with a pair of bogey 6's although Miss Varin dubbed her tee shot 100 feet out into the heavy rough. Using an iron, she dubbed her second ghot. The loss of the hole could have meant the match.
Used Wood in Rough
In desperation, Miss Varin used 8 wood out of the heavy rough and followed up with another beautiful wood three feet from the cup. Miss Ellis was on in three, but three-putted when she missed a two-footer that would have ended the match. The champion hooked her tee ghot on the short 15th into the woods and was required to take a penalty shot, giving her a bogey 4 while Miss Varin came in with a par 3. With the match dormie going into the 16th hole, the two contestants shot par 4's to end the match with Miss Ellis three up and two holes
to go. Played Ragged Golf
Both Miss Ellis and Miss Varin played ragged golf and the story of defeat lies in the work around the green. On the front nine, Miss Ellis took but 13 putts while Miss Varin had 17. On the sixth hole, Miss Varin had Miss Ellis easily, but the champion sunk a 25-foot chip shot from-off the green. The champion’s work around the green was consistently better than that of her opponent. 40 & 8 Draws Bye
Forty-and-Eight, the other Big Six club, has drawn a bye for this week's play and will perform in an exhibition game at Zionsville against the powerful semi-pro aggregation of that place. There will be action galore in the Manufacturers’ league with four games on the docket. Stewart-War-ner will engage the Allison nine at Rhodius No. 2 and a closely fought fracas is expected. Curtiss-Wright will encouniter U. 8. Rubber at Riverside No. 2 and again another hard-fought fray is expected. Both of these clubs have hit their stride the past couple of weeks and the outcome appears to be a tossup.

double and a couple of infield outs. In the fourth the Tribesters scored a third run on’ Trexler’s single, Moore's double and two walks. Norman Brown, Louisville’s starting pitcher, handed Morgan an intentional walk in the fourth to fill the bases and then lost control and walked Pike, forcing in a run.
In the fifth the Colonels landed | goo on Trexler again for a second pair hn
of markers. Pitcher Brown belted a home run over the left field wall to open the inning. The ball was well hit and cleared the barrier at the 360-foot mark. Albright Caught Napping Albright drew a pass and stopped at second on Millies’ single. A lucky break for the Tribe occurred when Albright was caught napping off second on a snap throw by Hofferth to Fairly. Earl Browne, Louisville first sacker, beat out a roller for a hit, Millies stopping at second. Garrison forced Browne, Fairly to Vaughn, and Millies scored when Vaughn made a wild throw to first trying for a double play. The Indians lost no time rallying in their half of the fifth, After one out, Vaughn lined a triple to right center and scored on Fairly’s singie to right. Pitcher Norman Brown was derricked and Johnson took up the Louisville mound toil. Trexler Beats Out One Trexler beat out an infield hit and the bases were loaded when Blackburn drew a walk. It was at this point that Johnson had a balk called on him and Fairly scored what proved to be the winning marker. After the Colonels got to Trexler for two hits in the seventh he was lifted and Tauscher, the veteran pitcher-coach, went in and that was all for the Colonels. It was Trexler's ninth victory and seventh straight. There is only one defeat against him. The veteran Eric McNair relieved Vaughn at second base for the Indians in the seventh. Vaughn had a bruised leg and retired for repairs. Fairly played heads-up ball at short and handled nine chances without a bobble. And he batted in two runs and scored one. Billings hospital's softball club will lay their untarnished BushFeezle Commercial softball loop lead on the line tonight at Softball stadium when they engage the second-place International Machine and Tool aggregation. Billings has won four victories in a row without a blemish. However, possibilities for them suffering their first setback of the season tonight appear bright. The Toolmen have lost only one tiff in four this year and are a well-balanced ball club. The Billings-Tool & Machine game will be the second one on tonight's card. In the lid-lifter, Internatjonal Harvester, resting in fifth place, will collide with the last-place Merz Engineering outfit. The Harvesters have copped one tilt out of four played and the Engineers have yet to- taste the sweetness of victory in four games.
