Rev. Coers Pvt. Bailey

The Rev. Morris H. Coers, American Red Cross field director, 120 W. 40th st., was one of 34 workers whose safe arrival in North Africa was announced today. Educated at Franklin college and Butler university, he was pastor of the 31st Street Baptist church for six years and then elected to the state house of representatives. He conducted the Temple of the Air, daily radio program, for 10 years and was appointed chaplain of the Indiana Boys’ Reform school

D. Elder J. Gibson Two Indianapolis men who received diplomas and silver gunners’ wings at. the Harlingen army air field, Texas, this week are Donald C. Elder (left), son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles: E. Elder, 514 E, Washington st., and James F. Gibson, son of Mrs. Pauline Gibson, 1461 S. Meridian st. The men were graduated as aerial gunners and are now qualified to handle the deadly machine guns aboard the army's big bombers.

The speeding up of enlistment of WAVES and SPARS by the elimination of the preliminary examination by civilian doctors and modification of eye standards was announced today by Lt. WASHINGTON, June 8 (U. P.).— War Manpower Chief Paul V. McNutt reported yesterday that some

local draft boards have been induct-

ing fathers despite the fact that they are in occupations outside the WMC list of non-deferrable activities. : When such cases were reported, McNutt said, the local draft boards were “put back in line where they belonged.”
