POTATO SHORTAGE END NOW IN SIGHT

WASHINGTON, June 1.-~The potato famine should soon be over. Commercial early potatoes from -1363,100 acres of land are ready or soon will be ready for the market. It is an acreage 17 per cent greater than the early potato acreage for 1942 and 16 per cent above the 10year average, 1932-41, Reports just made to the United States department of agriculture by its crop correspondents: and field statisticians. indicate the acreage in the states of Georgia, Kentucky, takes cut unwanted sounds. Maryland, Virginia and Kansas is 9 per cent above the acres harvested in 1942, but is nearly 22 per cent below the 10-year period. Arkansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee and North Carolina are expected to produce ‘ i nearly 7,000,000 bushels, an increase Western Electric of over a million bushels above the amount raised in 1942. The floods of the Arkansas and other rivers in Oklahoma and Arkansas have destroyed many acres of potatoes, but the increased in other states will moref {than balance the losses.
