At the Circle
“HIT PARADE OF 1843” (Circle) is one of Republic Pictures’ better musical comedies, with John Carroll, Susan Hayward, Freddy Martin's band, Count Basie’s band and Ray McKinley and his orchestra.
Also Jack Williams, the Harlem |
sandman; the Music Maids, the Three Cheers: Chinita, the ssultry dancer, and the Golden Gate quartet. he musical is packed with entertainment and some pretty fair comedy and seems to be a nice relaxer between war pictures. The story revolves about the efforts of Susan Hayward to pin back the ears of John Carrell who is stealing her songs. She starts out wanting to sue him and winds up wanting to marry him. Ah, romance.

CRADUATION SET AT BEN DAVIS
Commencement Thursday To Highlight Week of Senior Activities.
Duiinefice ment exercises at 8] p. next Thursday will highlight] a eh of activities beginning to-. morrow at Ben Davis high school. | The exercises will be held in the!
school auditorium. |
Talks during the commencembnt program will be given by Paula Jo Faulkner and Mary Frances Rushton, both seniors. Their respective topics will be “Our Place in the world” and “The Liberty of Peace.” Diplomas will be presented by H. F. | Griffey, superintendent of Marion county schools, and the Rev. Everett M. McCleary will give the invocation and benediction. Miss Marjorie Ogglesby will sing “Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life” and other music will be provided by the high school band, directed by Mrs.
By DAN GORDON
WAR WORKERS who find it difficult to get to their neighborhood movies at regular times will get a treat tonight when another neighborhood house inaugurates a midnight show for their benefit. The St. Clair, beginning tonight, will hold an: “owl” program every Saturday night. The Rivoli’s midnight shows continue as usual.
The two movies have picked a natural for the extra picture. Both will feature movies with Mary Martin and Bing Crosby. It's hard to find two warblers who know how to put a song over better
The St. Clair will show \ “Rhythm on the ; River” and the Mary Martin Rivoli the “Birth of the Blues,” which is supposed to tell about the beginning of jazz. . = = = “Ravaged Earth,” the movie filmed by Mark L. Moody, an American businessman who lived in China during the Japanese “rape” of China in 1937, will be shown at the Sheridan tomorrow through Wednesday and at the Rivoli‘ Monday through Wednesday. The film depicts the bestiality
| of the Japanese as they murdered,
pillaged and raped in the Chinese cities of Shanghai and Nanking. It is guaranteed to make you fighting mad. It is definitely not a motion picture for the squeamish. = = » NT — “Thunder Birds” and
