Smith Twins Receive Awards MISSES JOAN AND JOYCE SMITH recently were awarded certificates of achievement by the Victory Speakers’ bureau at Stephens college, Columbia, Mo. The presentations were made at a dinner given by the bureau in honor of Miss Louise Morley, daugh-

ter of the author, Christopher Morley. ; In order to qualify for the certificates the Smith twins devoted more than 75 hours each to preparing and delivering talks on matters of wartime economy before campus groups. They also have spoken before a student-faculty board of review on five different occasions. Upon completion of a short course in civilian defense given by the local offices they will be qualified to speak before the public as representatives of the OCD. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Knippenberg have returned to their home here after spending the winter in Hollywood, Fla. Annual Session Is Held by Local League

Mrs. George Gellhorn, St. Louis, was the speaker yesterday at the annual luncheon meeting of the Indianapolis League of Women Voters at the Woodstock club. She is chairman of the finance committee of the national league. In her speech, she urged league members help solve post-war problems. “As league members, we have been working hard to make our democratic form of government work, and that is our duty. “Democracy is a part of our religion. Women have had training between wars to make sacrifices, and power has been thrown upon them to become leaders.”

Rue J. Alexander To Be Speaker A public program to be presented tonight by the Service Men's! Mothers’ club of the Washington Street Methodist church, will feature Rue J. Alexander, secretary of state, as the speaker. Mrs. Emma Stanford is president of the group which includes the mothers of 74 men and two women in service.

The Highland Golf and Country club will open its summer season with & supper dance May 29. Mr. and Mrs. William R.
