NEED MORE JURORS
FOR MURDER TRIAL
Another special venire of 150 persons was ordered drawn in criminal court today to complete selection of a jury to hear the case of Bernard
L. White, 29, on trial charged with!
the “love affair” murder of his wife, Mary White, last Oct. 2. The original venire of 200 prospective jurors was nearly exhausted today as the state and defense attorneys dismissed dozens of prospective jurors as the result of questions on the death penalty. Prosecutor Sherwood Blue said he will ask the death penalty for White, It is expected that selec tion of a jury will require two or three more days.

RATE FOOD JOBS AS ‘NECESSARY’
WMC Grants Local Status To Key Wholesale and
Retail Grocery Men.
Wholesale groceries and three key occupations in retail groceries in the Indianapolis area were formally declared to be a local necessary industry in a statement made today by W. H. Spencer, regional director of the war manpower commission for region VI. “We concur with the food operators’ contention that efficient dis tribution of food is just as essential as the original processing and
growing of the crops,” Mr. Spencer said, : In their petition—representing 85 per cent of the distributors in this area-—to the labor-management WMC committee of the Indianapolis area, the food distributors requested that key jobs in their retail ace tivity as well as their wholesale outlets be specifically named as locally needed. The three occupations specified in retail grodery stores are fresh fruit and vegetable managers, store managers and meat managers.
Curiail Luxury Service
Food handlers have made every effort to employ women workers to overcome the shortage of manpower that has been diverted to the armed services or that has transferred to direct war production. All luxury services have been suspended or cultailed drastically. By their inclusion in the list of locally needed industries, employers engaged in wholesale and retail food distribution will participate in the Indianapolis stabilization plan. This action by the WMC does not affect the selective service status of the industry or of its employees.
‘Indianapolis Iron, Steel ' Dealers Held Essential
Iron and steel warehouse distribu- . | tors today were declared a locally needed activity in the Indianapolis | area—Marion and eight surrounding counties—by the regional WMC, By their inclusion in the list of locally needed industries, employers in this classification will participate in the Indianapolis stabilization plan. The action does not affect the selective service status of the industry or of its employees.
